New Directors for Specsavers Ballymena

Specsavers Ballymena has appointed two new store directors.  Jackie Douglas and Andrew Lowry join Valerie Penney as directors following the retirement of Adrian Murdoch.

Valerie Penney store director said, “Jackie and Andrew have both worked with me in Ballymena for many years and bring a wealth of experience to their new roles.  As store manager, Jackie has been instrumental in growing our business and looking after staff development, whilst Andrew has brought his considerable optometry experience to the clinical side of the business.  I am delighted that they have joined the senior management team and look forward to working closely with them both.”

Jackie Douglas joined Specsavers Ballymena in 1994 initially as an optical assistant.  She added laboratory skills to her remit whilst taking on additional administrative and commercial responsibilities to then become store manager, a post she has held for 15 years.  Jackie manages the staff of 27 and also looks after the implementation of new processes such as the recent introduction of Framestyler and audiopads.

Andrew Lowry began work in the Fairhill Shopping Centre store as an 18 year old optometry student when at Ulster University.  Following graduation he completed his pre-reg year also in the Specsavers store before taking on a permanent role which he has held for 15 years.  As a director Andrew will continue to work alongside his six optician colleagues in eye healthcare but will also become more involved in the day to day business and financial management of the store.

The Specsavers store in Fairhill Shopping Centre is open seven days a week with late night opening on Thursday and Friday until 20.30.  To book an appointment or seek advice please phone 028 25 648100 or check out the website at
